The report provides extensive data for all regions of Australia, and includes a chapter on the aggregated regional indicators for the nation, as well as the metropolitan regions of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth and a detailed set of data for Northern Australia.

The analysis shows a growing inequality between metropolitan and remote/outer lying regions, looking at the indicators of population, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), income from work, productivity and household disposable income. The report revisits the critical question of boosting regional economic productivity.
